In this video I use a 19 inch mobile whip antenna to receive signals from Amsat Oscar 7 (AO-7). It demonstrates what is possible with only basic equipment.

The antenna is tuned to the 2m band but also seems to have very low SWR on 70cm as well. I have had a few QSO’s using this setup via VO-52. The key to success is to have a short cable run and aim for passes that don’t go above 60 degrees. Try VO-52 for starters as it has a nice strong downlink.
